The Story
Scott started his career in graphic design while attending college in Madison, Wisconsin in 2001. While studying psychology and working at Regent Street Bicycle Center he took up screen printing and print production as a creative outlet. His unique sense of graphic design and composition landed him a junior design position at Planet Propaganda, a nationally recognized and award-winning design studio located on Lake Monona near downtown Madison. There he began working with clients such as Trek, Jimmy Johns, and the Wisconsin Film Festival. In 2005 Scott relocated to Chicago where he worked as a senior designer at one of the worlds largest communication agencies, Draftfcb. Some of his work included web design and art direction for Snickers, Vodacom, and Toyota. Scotts love for music and recording led him back to his home town of Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2007 where he developed Rev Pop Inc – his design studio, Dirty Earth – an apparel shop, and Khemitones Records – his music licensing and record label. Scott continues to work with large and small clients both locally and nationally. His passion for art and creative advertising has developed into his own brand of design, culture, and commerce. Scott currently works out of his second and third floor studios at his home in the Bay View neighborhood, just minutes away from downtown Milwaukee.

Rev Pop Cultivates Milwaukee’s Creative Class
As a company, Rev Pop’s multimedia base works in web design, video art and print. But as a concept, Rev Pop produces much more than an incredible product. Encompassing the vision and approach of owner Scott Starr, Rev Pop conveys the remarkable ability and intelligence of Milwaukee’s creative class. The re-emergence of Milwaukee’s creative class is what keeps Starr local. The growth of Fever Marlene, his highly successful Milwaukee based band, allows Starr to travel the nation’s metropolitan circuit, working in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Despite the exposure to these centers of vital artistry, Starr proudly calls Milwaukee home as he solidifies his place in the city’s creative culture. Continue Reading
Ridin’ Dirty
Scott Starr is probably best known as the 28-year-old frontman of Milwaukee band Fever Marlene, but lately he’s been making a name for himself off-stage as well. After dropping out of UW-Madison’s psychology program-he realized “being a psychiatrist wasn’t going to be just like Robin Williams’ character in Good Will Hunting”–Starr created his own design firm and record label, Rev Pop Inc., in 2006. Now, after spending the past couple of years building a resume of local and international clients, Starr has opened Dirty Earth (2534 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., 414-431-7534), a retail outlet specializing in one-of-a-kind screen-printed T-shirts and concert posters. Before Fever Marlene plays The Onion’s 5 LBs Of Christmas party Saturday at BBC, Starr spoke to The A.V. Club about Dirty Earth, the current status of Fever Marlene, and why EPs are the new LP. Creative Mojo Outbreak On The Southside?
The boys of Fever Marlene have been lurking on the fringe of the national spotlight since the release of their 2007 album Civil War. However, the two-piece rock/electropop outfit has sustained a noteworthy dedication to not only the Milwaukee music scene, but also the overarching creative engine of the city. After recording their 2008 follow-up album White China in New York’s famed Chelsea Hotel, band members Scott Starr (guitar, vocals) and Kevin Dunphy (drums, vocals) have set up shop in Bay View to begin work on their third studio album, and to light a fire under the ass of the city’s creative community. A Pretty Place To Shop
Scott Starr might be best known in Milwaukee as the charismatic frontman for local band Fever Marlene, but, as it turns out, his talents extend far beyond the walls of the recording studio. Since 2006 he’s been the creative force behind Rev Pop, a multimedia design firm that has worked with companies as far reaching as Tanqueray and BMW and as hometown and familiar as the Diablos Rojos restaurant group.
